Roads in Kargil to open for Vehicular Traffic soon

Jammu, March 09 – Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din today informed the Legislative Assembly, that road up to Panisqar is open for light vehicular traffic and would soon be opened for heavy vehicles. He said that efforts are on to clear the avalanches that are hindering the work on the road.

Mr. Taj said that Sankoo-Rulpoc road and Sankoo-Khalamarpoo and Brakoo link roads are through for light vehicular traffic, while as, Goma-Kargil link road is through for all types of vehicular traffic. He said that all other important roads of Kargil town are also though for vehicular traffic.

Mr. Taj said that link roads at Zanskar sub-division are closed due to heavy snowfall and work is in progress for opening these roads for all types of vehicles through Mechanical Engineering Division, Kargil.

The Minister further said that the Barsoo road is through up to Barsoo and the work is in progress beyond Tickat. Regarding other link roads, he said that 90 per cent of the roads have been cleared but due to constant avalanches, some of the roads got blocked and every effort is being made to make restore traffic at the earliest with the machinery and manpower available with the Mechanical Engineering Department, Kargil.

The Minister was responding to a Calling Attention Notice by Mr. Qamar Ali Akhoon and Mr. Ali Feroz Ahmad Khan regarding blockade of roads in Kargil district due to heavy snowfall.
