Rugby gaining popularity among Sports in Jammu & Kashmir

Srinagar, August 20 - Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Medical Education and Technical education, Mr. R. S. Chib today said like football and cricket, Rugby sports is gaining popularity among sports lovers. He asked the youth of the State to participate with full vigour and zeal in Rugby.

The Minister was addressing participants of 4th State Rugby Championship concluding function at Polo-ground yesterday evening. He said that Rugby is valued as a sport for men and women, boys and girls as it builds team spirit, understanding, cooperation and respect for fellow athletes, Mr. Chib assured of full support from the government in order to popularize the sport among t he masses of the State.

Earlier, President Rugby Association, Mr. Salman Hafiz and General Secretary, Mr. Irfan Ahmad apprised the Minister about the importance of the sport and gave resume of the event.

Later, Mr. Chib distributed prizes among the winners. In sub juniors, Green Valley received the first, Linton Hall second and presentation convent and Minto Circle third position. In junior girls, again Green Valley bagged first, Linton Hall second and Jammu district third. In senior boys, Rugby Bulls topped while as Bell Mont stood at second and Warrior Club stood third.

 

Water Sports event Inaugurated in Kashmir

Srinagar, August 20 - The Minister for Science and Technology, Sheep and Animal Husbandry Mr. Aga Syed Ruhulla Mehdi today inaugurated Water sports events at Nehru Park organized by J&K Energy Development Agency on the eve of Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas to celebrate Renewable Energy Day.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister urged for promoting non-conventional energy sources in view of depletion of conventional energy resources. He said that the Late Rajiv Gandhi has played a pioneering role in ushering the country into an era of Science and Technology.

Paying glowing tributes to Late Rajiv Gandhi the Minister called upon the people to follow his ideals adding that he was an icon of youth who gave the ideas of development of the country on modern and scientific line for achieving self sufficiency in every sphere. Students from various schools participated in the event.
