Colorful Cultural Procession marks 2nd Day of Navratra Festival

Katra, September 20 - As a part of Navratra Festival being organized by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), Katra and Tourism Department in collaboration with local organizations at holy town Katra, a colorful procession comprising of holy palanquin of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji, attractive tableaux depicting varied shades of rich cultural heritage and the folk troupes attired in their traditional dresses marked the beginning of the 2nd day of festival today evening.

Additional Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB, Dr. M.K. Bhandari accompanied by District Development Commissioner, Reasi, Mr. P.K. Pole, Additional SP Katra, Ashok Sharma and Sub Divisional Magistrate, Katra, Mr. Rashpal Singh lit the sacred Joyti in the evening hours today at Asia Chowk which passed through the main bazaars of the town amidst showering of petals by the devotees.

Prominent persons of the town including President, Hotel and Restaurant Association, Katra, Sham Lal Kesar, President, J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Mr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, President, Travel Association , Katra, Mr. Surinder Khajuria, Chairman, All India Devotional Song Competition, Katra< President, Municipality, Katra, Mr. Ambrish Magotra, Sardari Lal Dubey, Harish Dubey and others also accompanied the Shobha yatra.

The other major highlight of the festival held on the First day of Navratra Fest last evening at Yog Ashram, Katra included All India Devotional Song Competition in which 13 singers from different parts of the country took part in the contest. Miss Nidhi from Jammu stood first in the contest while Mr. Shiv Sagar from Delhi and Sarbjeet Singh of Jammu bagged second and third position in the contest. Miss Nidhi has entered the mega final contest while second and third position holders would meet again in semi-final on September 26.

Scintillating cultural bonanza based on religious themes and depicting rich cultural heritage of the country presented by the artists of Song and Drama Division (GOI) in the premises of Govt. HSS Katra, last evening, was highly appreciated by the spectators.
