Government Administration discusses Jhiri Mela arrangements

Jammu October 13 - District Development Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. M. K. Dwivedi today convened a meeting to discuss the arrangements for ensuing Jhiri Mela commencing from November 2. Director Tourism, Jammu, Mr. S. M. Sahni, Assistant Commissioner (General), Jammu, Mr. Rohit Khajuria, Deputy Director Information (PR), Jammu, Mr. A. K. Khajuria, Deputy Director, Fire Services, Jammu, representatives from PDD and Natrang were present in the meeting.

The DDC directed the Tourism and Information departments for wide publicity of the importance of historical Mela through Print and Electronic Media and instructed the Tourism department to make pamphlets/ handout/ broachers highlighting the tourist spots of the adjoining area for the tourists visiting Mela from outside the state.

It was also informed in the meeting that Natrang club is going to organize stage shows and cultural programme on the life history of Bawa Jittoo for two days during the Mela.

The Commissioner directed the PDD authorities to make arrangements of flood lights at Mela site so that the Yatries may not face any difficulty during the Mela days.

The Commissioner asked the Deputy Director Fire Services to convene a prior meeting with the Jhiri Mela Committee and the Traffic authorities to have a pre-hand knowledge of ground realities and to work out the locations for placement of fire tenders on the Mela site. He further instructed that Fire Services department should also generate awareness among the Yatries (Pilgrims) regarding the precautionary measures to be adopted for avoiding the fire incidents such as proper storage and use of cylinders, stoves etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dwivedi stated that a Master Plan of the Mela site has been prepared and the government is planning to develop the area on modern lines by envisaging the construction of a Yatri Niwas with approach road, lanes, drains, solid waste management, liquid waste management projects, restricting the encroachments in the area etc for the facilities of the yatries in the years to come.
