Jammu & Kashmir organising
10 day National Art Festival at Chandigarh

Chandigarh, October 22 - Around 400 artists and craftsman from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh will take part in ten day long National Art Festival at Chandigarh . “This high profile Festival is starting from 24th of October and the grand finale of this event will be held on 2nd of November . The festival is being organised by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages with the collaboration of North Zone Cultural Centre Chandigarh.

The Festival will be held at Kalagram ground and would remained open from 11 morning to 10 evening every day. Giving details of the festival Dr. Javaid Rahi, Senior official of Academy stated that more than 400 artists, film makers, craftsmen and intellectuals from all parts of the state, will take part in this median event. Omar Abdulah, Chief Minister, Jammu & Kashmir will inaugurate this 10 day the festival on 24th October. The Union Ministers and other State and Central dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion.

Prominent artists of Kashmiri, Dogri, Ladakhi, Punjabi, Gojri, Pahari , Balti and Shina will perform in this cultural extravaganza .

With a view to highlight Jammu & Kashmir at the national scene on art & cultural front, this 1st National Kalagram Art Festival is eventually expected to become an annual event. Stalls of all crafts material of Kashmir including carpets, Namdas, curtain cloth, paper machie, wood carving, basketries, shawls, dresses , metal items, will be the part of this festival, said Rahi adding that the stalls of Ethnic food and spices will remained open for 24 hours during the festival.

Chandigarh being the capital of Punjab & Haryana as well as headquarters of the Union Territory, has witnessed a major boom in respect of different art forms and creative artistic endeavours and Kalagram has become a hub and focal point for the promotion of art & culture in the region.
