Jhiri Mela (Festival) arrangements discussed

Jammu, October 23-District Development Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. M. K. Dwivedi today convened a meeting to discuss the arrangements for Jhiri Mela commencing from November 19, 2010. He said that district administration has geared up its preparations to ensure smooth conduct of this historical event and make it more alluring for the pilgrims and tourists who visit this Festival in large numbers from within and outside the state.
Joint Director Information, SSP Jammu, RTO Jammu, S P Rural, SEs, PDD, R&B & PHE, Deputy S P Traffic and senior officers of various departments were attended the meeting.

Threadbare discussions were held on providing adequate security, proper sanitation, 24 hour power supply, drinking water at the venue so that pilgrims do not face any inconvenience.

The District Development Commissioner was informed that better road connectivity to Jhiri Temple and adjoining areas has been ensured and medical teams have been constituted to cater to the medical needs of the devotees. It was also decided in the meeting DPO Jammu and BDO Marh will ensure construction of additional sanitary units and renovation of the existing ones.

The DDC directed SP Rural and Tehsildar Jammu to constitute special teams to check overcharging during the Festival. These teams will ensure that the stall holders and other selling food items and other articles shall display rate lists at their establishments. . He also directed the concerned agencies for keeping vigil on the quality of food items being sold, while asking to ensure uninterrupted supply of power during the Festival. He directed the traffic authorities to ensure proper management of traffic during the event and place proper sign boards for the convenience of the devotees
Other arrangements discussed during the meeting included ensuring adequate stocks of ration and fire wood, provisions for the accommodation of the devotees, deployment of fire tenders at the venue, setting up of stalls by various departments and conduct of various cultural programmes during the Festival.
