Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2010 from 1st July to 24th August, 2010.

Jammu, February 9 – Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2010 is expected to commence from 1st July to 24th August, 2010. This was discussed during the meeting of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board in Delhi.

While deliberating the need for evolving a pragmatic schedule for the annual Shri Amarnathji Yatra, the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board took note of the fact that in 2010 the Shravan Purnima / Raksha Bandhan falls on 24th August. The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board also took note of the Shri Amarnathji Yatra schedule in the past 15 years as well as the pattern of the flow of the pilgrims in the first fortnight from the commencement date.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Board was asked to timely commence the registration of pilgrims to ensure the effective management of the Shri Amarnathji Yatra during 1st July ─ 24th August, 2010.

Chief Executive Officer of the Board has already initiated the process to firm up the operation of Helicopter-Services on both the routes (Pahalgam to Panjtarni & Baltal to Panjtarni) during Yatra 2010. It was observed that the termination of the heli-services at Panjtarni would satisfy the repeated concern, expressed by various quarters, that nothing must be done which disturbs the sensitive ecology of the area and, besides, the longevity of the Ice Lingam.

Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board concerned about pilgrims losing lives, has directed all precautionary measures. Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board also desired that the protection measures should be further upgraded for the ensuing Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2010. Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board also approved the proposal to provide free accidental insurance cover of Rs. one lakh to all the registered pilgrims of Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2010 onwards.
