Historic Sudh Mahadev Mela (Festival)
to commence on June 25 ‘2010

Udhampur (Jammu, J&K), June- 07 - Arrangements for the smooth conduct of 3-day Historical Sudhmahadev Mela starting from June 25, 2010 at Sudhmahadev in tehsil Chenani of district Udhampur were discussed in a meeting of district officers of different departments held under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Udhampur.

Threadbare discussion on various arrangements like drinking water and power supply, medicare, sanitation, security, transport, accommodation, repair of road, checking of rates of essentials and parking of vehicles etc. was held in the meeting attended by the district heads of various departments, engineers of PWD, PHE, PDD and Secretary, Dharmrath Trust, prominent persons from Sudhmadev and Chenani were also present in the meeting.

The Executive Engineer PHE has been directed to erect adequate number of public points at the Mela (Festival) site well in advance while Executive Engineer, PDD was asked to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Mela (Festival) days. The officers of Economic Reconstruction Agency were asked for early upgradation of Chenani to Sudmahadev road stretch for facility of the pilgrims. The Chief Medical Officer was asked to depute a team of doctors with ambulance and required medicines to meet any eventuality at Chenani, Sudhmahadev and Mantalai round the clock during the Mela (Festival) days. Executive Engineer, PWD was asked to raise separate temporary toilets and bath rooms for males and females at the mela site and Mantalai for the convenience of pilgrims. Modalities for providing tented accommodation at mela site were also discussed for which officers of PDA agreed to provide sufficient number of tents.

Adequate deployment of security personnel at Mela site and enroute would be made by the District Police to ensure fool-proof security. The ARTO Udhampur would ensure plying of adequate number of buses from Udhampur.

A committee comprising Assistant Director, CA&PD, Naib Tehsildar Sudhmahadev and Food Inspector was constituted to keep a strict vigil on rates and quality of eatables. Besides, adequate parking places would also be identified at different locations for the smooth flow of traffic. It was also decided that the Department of Tourism would ensure publicity of the Mela well in advance to attract maximum visitors to the site of Mela.
Tehsildar, Chenani has been given the charge of Mela Officer to supervise all arrangements.

The District Development Commissioner stressed upon the officers concerned to make coordinated efforts in ensuring their arrangements well in advance to make the Mela (Festival) a grand success.
