Historic Sudh Mahadev Mela inaugurated amidst
Colourful Celebrations

Udhampur (Jammu), June 25- The Historic Sudh Mahadev Mela (fair) in Chenani, (in the Udhampur district of Jammu in J&K) commenced amidst colourful ceremony on friday. Thousands of devotees reached Sudhmahadev temple to seek blessing of Lord Shiva on the first day of three-day mela.

During the day the devotees took bath in the Beenisangam called Budhisudhi rivulet, which flows out from top of the Dhar Shivgarh and is considered an abode of innumerable saints. Later they also took a dip in the spring (Pap Nashni Bowli) situated just at the entrance of the temple, about which it is said that a holy dip in this spring shuns all evils.

MLA Chenani, formally inaugurated the Mela. District administration has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Mela like uninterrupted power supply, safe drinking water, sanitation, medicare and Police assistance. Proper security arrangements have also been made at the Mela site. Various departments of Jammu & Kashmir like Agriculture, Horticulture, Health, National Rural Health Mission, Apiculture, Handicraft, Handloom and Animal Husbandry have put up stalls to educate the masses about the various state and centrally sponsored schemes especially for socio economic upliftment of the people.

Number of temporary sweet shops, toy shops and other eatable corners were the main attraction for the general public visiting the Mela site and children were seen enjoying the joy rides.

On the occasion Cultural Academy Jammu, Department of Youth Service and Sports Udhampur and Song and Drama Division (GOI) also arranged cultural programmes for the entertainment of people at the Mela.
The 3- day Sudhmahadev Mela would culminate with wrestling match in which wrestlers from with in and out side the state are expected to participate.
