100 Post Offices to also Register

Post Offices to commence Registering pilgrims for Shri Amarnathji Yatra-2012 from
15th May, 2012

Srinagar (Kashmir) April 30 – The Department of Posts will also start the Registration of Shri Amarnathji Yatra-2012 on behalf of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board this year. The Registration of Shri Amarnathji Yatra-2012 by Department of Posts on behalf of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board will be a major boon to the Amarnathji Yatris (Pilgrims).

As the Post Offices would be handling the registration arrangements for the first time, and some logistical issues are involved, the CEO, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, explained that the Post Offices would commence registering pilgrims from 15th May, 2012. He advised that the pilgrims living in the vicinity of the Post Offices may wait till 15th May from which date the Post Offices would register pilgrims for the entire Yatra period.

100 post offices across the country have been identified especially in Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and U.P. The Post Offices which will provide registration facilities are located in districts of Akbar Pur, Faizabad, Rosebery, Sultanpur, Bulandshar, Khurja, Mainpuri, Ghazipur, Pratapgarh, Amroha, Bijnor, Rampur, Azamgarh, Barirumpur, Gonga, Banda, Fatehpur, Mirzapur, Lal Ganj, Sila Pur, Dhampur, Hardoi, Khori, Hapur, Gorahkpur in Uttar Pradesh; Betul, Chattapur, Damoh, Mandla, Sagar, Sidhi, Vidisha, Ratlam, Shajapur, Dhar, Bhind, Mandsour, Katni, Dewas, Neemuch, Morena, Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh; Dadar, Osmanabad, Sholapur, Latur, Parbhani, Satara, Nanded, Yavatmal, Dhule, Ratnagiri, Chandrapuram, Sangli, Akola, Buldhana, Amravati, Wardha in Maharashtra; Aurangabad, Gaya, Buxar, Siwan, Katihar, Jehanabad, Banka, Gopal Ganj, Darbanga, Muzaffarpur, Saharsa, Katihar, Chapra, Samastipur, Ara in Bihar; Kheda, Mahesana, Godhra, Patan, Amroli, Junagarh, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Surindranagar, Bharuch, Valsad, Navsari, Gandhinagar, Nadiad, Dohad in Gujarat; Sangrur, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Faridkot, Gurdaspur, Patiala, Ropar in Punjab; and Sonipat, Bhiwani, Jind, Sirsa, Narnoul in Haryana.

This facility will be in addition to the 174 Bank Branches and via the Internet based e-Registration System already announced by the Shrine Board. Until last year the registration was done only through J&K Bank and YES Bank.

In a major initiative to provide convenience to the Yatris for the registration, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board has tied up with the Department of Posts for Shri Amarnathji Yatra registration through select post offices. As a part of registration process, the Yatris will submit the Application Form along with the prescribed Medical Certificate.

The Chief Postmaster General also announced that four Yatri Post Offices will be established in the Shri Amarnathji Yatra route for the benefit of the Yatris. These Yatri Post Offices will provide basic postal services, including letter post, Registered post and Speed post facilities for the benefit of the Yatris. For more than 20 years these Yatri post offices have been non-functional. The Chief Postmaster General told that during this year all these four post offices will be revived and made fully functional.

The Chief Postmaster General told that during Shri Amarnathji Yatra special postal covers and Picture Post Cards will be brought out and they will be available at Yatri Post Offices. These will be important souvenir for the Yatris who are undertaking the pilgrimage.
