Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation
to increase profitability and gear up to greet Tourists: Jora

Jammu, April 06:The Minister for Tourism and Culture, Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora Monday stressed on increasing the profitability of Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) by tightening control over the non-performing assets (NPAs). He said that a circular would also be issued soon to make defaulting departments (NPAs) accountable for re-payment of the long and overdue arrears of the Corporation.

The Minister was speaking at the 23rd annual general meeting of JKTDC here today. Mr. Jora is also chairman of the Corporation.

Commissioner Secretary Finance, Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey, Secretary Tourism, Mrs. Tanveer Jahan, Managing Director, JKTDC, Mr. Rafiq Ahmad Qadri and Director Finance JKTDC attended the meeting.

The meeting approved enhancement of authorized share capital of the Corporation from Rs. 5 crore to Rs. 16 crore.

The Minister called for pooling all the available resources to make the Corporation self-sustained, adding that the Corporation should diversify its activities for generating additional resources. He urged for launching a vigorous drive to recover outstanding dues from various defaulting departments so as to make the Corporation viable.

Mr. Jora enjoined upon the management of the Corporation to improve its customer services and come up to the expectations of the tourists. He said since Jammu and Kashmir is all set to witness a big tourist boom this season, the Corporation should carry out massive facelift exercise through sustained cleanliness drives to make its assets more attractive and charming for the visiting tourists.

He also stressed for reactivating Tour and Travel Wing of the Corporation to provide best and comfortable service to the tourists.

The meeting also adopted the balance sheet and profit and loss account for the year 1992-93. Auditors Report and comments of Comptroller Auditor General (CAG) were also adopted by the management.
