Jammu (Jammu & Kashmir), July 09, 2016 - Shri Amarnath Yatra 2016Shri Amarnath Yatra 2016 has been suspended from Jammu and all Yatra bound vehicles have been stopped at various places on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway as authorities are apprehensive about protests in the Kashmir valley following the killing of 21-year-old Burhan Wani, considered as a ‘poster boy’ of Hizbul Mujahideen terror group for wooing Kashmiri youths to militancy, in Kokernag area (enroute Pahalgam) of south Kashmir Anantnag district yesterday.

Official sources said the Shri Amarnath Yatra convoy, which left Jammu yesterday morning, had reached Baltal and Nunwan in Pahalgam safely.

Meanwhile, pilgrimage to Holy cave shrine of Shri Amarnathji in Anantnag district of South Kashmir crossed one-lakh figure during first seven-days of the yatra with 16,367 pilgrims paying obeisance yesterday and 13383 more pilgrims left for the cave shrine from base camps of Baltal and Nunwan (Pahalgam) today for darshan.

The pilgrimage crossed one lakh figure within one week of Shri Amarnath Yatra 2016, which had started on July 2.

The pilgrimage was progressing smoothly with weather being sunny on both the tracks of Chandanwari and Baltal.
