Jhiri Festival near Jammu from November 16 to November 24

Jammu (J&K), October 19, 2013 - Deputy Commissioner (DC), Jammu, Ajeet Kumar Sahu has stressed the need for close coordination between different departments for ensuring fool-proof arrangements pertaining to their respective departments for the smooth conduct of Jhiri Mela commencing from November 16 to November 24. Sahu was addressing a meeting of district officers of different departments and mela committee members at Jhiri to review the arrangements here on Saturday.

It was decided in the meeting informed that Block Development Officer, Marh will be the Mela Officer who will supervise the arrangements of the mela besides ensuring construction of mobile toilets and individual sanitation complex. A Control Room have also been set up under the supervision of Naib Tehsildar which will be made functional round the clock for the convenience of the devotees.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the functionaries of R&B to immediately start the repair of damaged roads for the convenience of the devotees. He asked the PHE department to ensure uninterrupted water supply with provision for additional water tanks, hand pumps and sprinklers for cleaning of venue. The Deputy Commissioner also instructed Power Department to ensure proper lighting arrangements in addition to un-interrupted power supply at the venue throughout the Mela days. Irrigation Department was directed to construct bathing ghats and erection of barricading.

 

Transport authorities were directed to arrange sufficient number of buses for transportation of devotees and to fix special time table for hassle free movement of vehicles. Fire Services would ensure Fire Tenders at the venue and other vital points to meet any eventuality. Chief Education Officer was directed to organize skits and cultural programmes besides Youth Services and Sports authorities would organize sports events during the mela.

Similarly, Traffic department was asked to identify places for idle parking of buses, private transport and to ensure all requisite arrangements for smooth flow of traffic. Police was directed to ensure foolproof security arrangements at the venue to avoid any untoward incident.

Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution authorities were asked to arrange fair price shops market checking to ensure quality product. Health department was directed to keep sufficient provision for medicare facilities. The Forest department was asked to make available fire wood of good quality. The DDC asked different departments to install stalls of their respective department to deliver enhanced services to the devotees visiting the Jhiri.
