Sufi Singer performs at Historic Mubarik Mandi during Jammu Festival

Jammu (J&K), December 28, 2013 - On 4th day the Jammu Festival witnessed great crowd of people, mainly because of live performance by famous Sufi singer Lakhwinder Wadali at historic Mubarik Mandi. The venue of festival was fully packed and people cheered the singer who mesmerized them with his traditional style. The singer enthralled the audience by his scintillating sufi songs.

Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Jammu & Kashmir, Sham Lal Sharma who was chief guest on the occasion opened today’s programme by lighting the traditional lamp on the venue. MLA Ashok Khajuria, Director Tourism and Information, Mr. Sojanaya Sharma, prominent businessmen of Jammu city including, Mr. Ravi Mahajan, Mr. Kuldeep Wahi, senior NC leader, Rattan Lal Gupta and large number of officers of various departments were also present on the occasion.

   

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma called for promoting the rich Dogri culture and Dogri language in Jammu region. He said “Dogri is our identity and we all should make collective efforts in this direction. He said we all should promote Dogri language within our families and especially children should be encouraged to speck in Dogir”. He recalled the great contribution of Dogra Rullers for preserving the Duggar Land with lot of sacrifices. The need of the hour was to preserve the rich heritage of our forefathers.

He impressed upon the younger generation to remain connected with their roots and contribute for the development and progress of the society. He said many social evils are gulping the society and a collective effort is needed to eradicate them. Youth have the special role in nation building and a prosperous society.

He appreciated the efforts of the Tourism Department for promoting the tourism and cultural heritage of the State and asked for organizing regular such events to attract more and more people towards their traditions. He also directed the Director Tourism to explore possibilities to identify new potential areas of tourism promotion in Jammu region where still there is great scope for expansion.

Mr. Ashok Khajuria called for proper protection of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex. He also stressed for organizing regular events to promote Dogri culture and language.
