Jammu Festival 2013 Concludes
Jammu (J&K), December 30, 2013 - The last day of Jammu Festival 2013 witnessed unprecedented crowd at Gulshan Ground, where internationally famed Punjabi Singer Gurdas Mann performed live. A large number of people from different walks of life turned up to witness the event along with their families.
Singer Gurdas Mann mesmerized the jam packed audience with his traditional style and people cheered on his every song. People put forth their choices to the Singer and he sang songs according to the wishes of his fans.
The event was jointly opened by the Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma, Minister for Tourism, Mr. G. A. Mir, and Minister for Housing and Culture, Mr. Raman Bhalla by lighting the traditional lamp in presence of MLA Ashok Khajuria, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Mr. Shantmanu, Director Tourism Jammu Mr. Soujanaya Sharma and other dignitaries.
In their brief addresses, the Ministers appreciated the Tourism Department for organizing the bonanza of 6-day Jammu Festival 2013, which enthused one and all, especially the younger generation. “This is a good effort to promote the rich Dogra culture, heritage and tourism in Jammu division”, they said.
Ministers congratulated the Director Tourism, J&K and his team for the effort and hoped that this will go a long way in helping the younger generation to remain connected with their roots. They impressed upon the Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Department to continue their efforts to organize such events in other parts of the State to further strengthen and preserve the rich ethos of Dogra culture, language and heritage.
The Ministers also appreciated the people of Jammu who have exhibited great enthusiasm to make the event a success. They also appreciated the administration, agencies associated with the event and above all the artists coming from different destinations to perform here.
They said the Jammu Festival will inspire the hidden talent of local artists as they will get the opportunities to perform in future events also. The festival is an appropriate forum for the artists to exhibit their talent, the Ministers hoped that such events will change the mindset of younger generation towards the positive direction which was must to make the society harmonious and prosper, they asserted.
Director Tourism Jammu, Soujanaya Sharma also highlighted the aim and objectives of the 6-day Jammu Festival. He said the Festival has evoked great response of Jammu people and they turned up in large number to witness the event during all the 6 days. The event was a great success and has achieved its objective of reviving the rich culture and traditions of Dogras. He expressed his gratitude to all sister agencies who were associated with organizing the Festival and making it a grand success. He expressed his special thanks to the media for highlighting the events of entire festival with prominence. He also expressed his gratitude to the artists, security agencies, Police, PHE, PDD, JMC and all those who helped in organizing the Festival. Later, the Ministers honored the singer Gurdas Mann and Members of his troupe for the excellent performance.
